Coming together from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, the executive board is the backbone of Mizzou College Democrats. Their ideas help shape the direction and mission of our organization as it continues to develop.

Emily Lower is a junior at Mizzou studying Statistics, Economics, and Political Science. This past year, she served on the Women's Leadership Conference Executive Board as the Alumni and Graduate Relations Coordinator and was a teaching assistant for the Chancellor's Leadership Class. She currently works as a Resident Advisor for the Kinder Institute Residential College. This summer, she will be working with the National Women's Political Caucus as a Political Planning and Action Intern. Emily is passionate about criminal justice, gun control, and electing more women into office.

Vice President

Jeffrey Bittle is a sophomore from Cape Girardeau, Missouri studying political science and communication here at Mizzou. Among other issues, he feels most passionately about environmental justice, single-payer healthcare, the right to unionize, and anti-corruption measures. Jeffrey’s hobbies include biking, enjoying nature, and experiencing new people and places. He especially loves visiting state parks and walking along the Mississippi River. Someday, he’d love to run for public office, but he doesn’t quite know what his life will look like in the meantime. Aside from being Vice President, Jeffrey is the Southern Membership Director for College Democrats of Missouri, and he enjoys volunteering for progressive candidates and causes whenever possible.

Communications Director

Ashley O'Brien is a senior double majoring in Political Communication and Religious Studies, as well as minoring in Middle Eastern Studies. When she is not at a Mizzou Dems meeting, you can probably find her working a shift at a local coffee shop in Columbia. Ashley is energetic about religious tolerance, womxn's rights, and using her strengths to be an ally. After graduation, she hopes to either attend graduate school or work in the public sector.

Colby Thornton is from St. Joseph, MO. He is a Business major with an emphasis in Finance and a minor in Political Science. He hopes to one day be on the Supreme Court so law school is in the near future. He enjoys dancing (very poorly), singing (also very poorly), and making people laugh (he thinks he’s good at this). On campus Colby is a Writing Center Tutor, an Involvement Ambassador, and will be serving as a Summer Welcome Leader. Colby is passionate about criminal justice, education, and voting reform.

Membership Coordinator

Luke Swezy is a junior majoring in Strategic Communication with a minor in Film Studies. Outside of Mizzou Democrats, Luke is a trivia game enthusiast and enjoys hanging with friends. He is passionate about fighting for Medicare for All, electoral reform, and the improvement of public education.

Chief of Staff

Dylan Britton is a freshman studying Political Science, Sociology & American Constitutional Democracy with an emphasis in Law & Institutions. From St. Clair, Missouri, he has experienced the full range of Missouri’s political beliefs and believes in Public Service over Politics. Other than being a strong advocate for bi-partisanship, Dylan is passionate about promoting civic involvement, establishing automatic voter registration, strengthening public education, and ensuring accessibility and accountability among all levels of our government. Dylan plans to attend graduate schools to earn his law degree and a Masters in Public Administration, hoping to serve in the Missouri General Assembly.
